Ronald Aksamit

Ronald Eugene Aksamit died Jan. 1, on his homestead near Eagle River, Alaska with his wife of 43 years by his side. He was 80 years old. Ron was born on July 10, 1940, to William and Rose (Kucera) Aksamit. He grew up on the family farm three miles south of Deweese, attended Pleasant Hill Elementary School and graduated from Nelson High School. After his freshman year at Univerity of Nebraska at Lincoln, Ron was asked by his aunt and uncle to drive a pick-up truck they had purchased in Colorado to Anchorage where they lived. He arrived in Alaska and never left except for occasional visits home.

After living in the Anchorage area for a few years, Ron applied for a homestead. While the application was pending, he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge in 1963, Ron staked a claim to 160 acres outside Eagle River, Alaska, which was granted in 1972. Ron built his home there and lived there until his death.

Ron met Eva Loken in the early 1970s and they were married Feb. 14, 1977. They collaborated in all things, cherishing their home and regularly walking their property with their dogs, Mark and Max.

In 1989, Ron cofounded MBA Consulting Engineers. The successful company handled large commercial and public works projects throughout Alaska and the world. He also played a supportive role to Eva in her successful real estate business and her many volunteer activities. Ron retired in 2013.

Ron is survived by his wife, Eva; his siblings, Becky Aksamit, Steve Aksamit, and Virginia Aksamit Haddix; sister-in law, Becky Aksamit; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his older brother, William Aksamit. His funeral is planned for the summer of 2021.
