The Superior High School girls basketball team lost a nail-biter to the Thayer Central Titans, 46-43, at Superior, Friday. They rebounded nicely with a 57-48 win over the Fillmore Central Panthers, at Geneva, Saturday to bring their record to 6-5. The Heartland Huskies visited Superior, Tuesday, with game results unavailable at press time.
The Wildcats led Thayer Central 7-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Titans and Wildcats ditched defensive play in the second quarter. The Titans rang up 22 points while the Wildcats put up 13 to trail 25-20 at the half. Superior crept ahead in the third to lead 34-32 going into the final period. Both teams played hard and fast. Thayer Central pulled slowly away and won 46-43 despite the Wildcats best efforts.
Superior had a more comfortable game against Fillmore Central coming home with a 57-48 win.
Shayla Meyer led the Superior scoring brigade against Thayer Central with 22 points. Emma Henderson accounted for five Wildcat points. Sierra Blackburn and Laci Kirchhoff added four points apiece. Atlee Kobza and Neah McMeen came through with three points each. Ella Gardner scored two points.
Meyer logged 10 rebounds. Blackburn, Henderson and Madison Heusinkvelt landed three rebounds each. Gardner and Kobza finished with two rebounds apiece.
Gardner exploded for 25 points against Fillmore Central. Meyer contributed 17 points. Blackburn put through nine points. Henderson added four points. Kirchhoff scored two points.
Meyer hauled down 13 rebounds. Kobza landed nine rebounds. Gardner snagged seven rebounds. Kirchhoff handled five rebounds. Henderson nailed down two rebounds. Blackburn and McMeen pulled away a rebound each.
The Wildcats host the Sandy Creek Cougars at the high school gymnasium Saturday. Superior faces one of their toughest tests of the season when they play Hastings St. Cecilia at Superior Tuesday.
