The Lawrence- Nelson High School girls basketball team reeled off two straight wins to improve their season record to 5-5.
Lawrence-Nelson downed the McCool Junction Mustangs 39-28 at Nelson last Tuesday. They continued their winning ways as they handed the Giltner Hornets a 60-35 loss at Giltner Thursday. The Raiders played Rock Hills at Mankato Tuesday with game results unavailable at press time.
McCool Junction jumped out to an 11-4 lead over the Raiders after the first quarter. This seemed to wake up the Lawrence-Nelson squad as they roared back offensively and defensively with a 16-2 second quarter surge to take a 20-13 lead into the half. The Raiders never looked back and emerged with a 39-28 win.
The Raiders continued their winning ways with a 60-35 trouncing of Giltner on their home court. The Raiders established their dominance with a 16-6 first quarter and followed up with a 17-10 second quarter to lead 33-16 at the half. Lawrence-Nelson cruised their way to a 60-35 win to start the new year off in style.
Emily Miller led the Lawrence-Nelson scoring attack against McCool Junction with 14 points. Aleah Heikkinen contributed eight points. Elsa Jorgensen put up seven points. Emma Epley and McKenzie Ostdiek accounted for four points each. Avery Mazour scored two points.
E. Miller took down 11 rebounds. Avery Mazour and Heikkinen nabbed five rebounds apiece. Epley and Jorgensen snagged four rebounds each. Katelyn Mazour and Ostdiek landed two rebounds apiece. Alex Miller, Tori Miller and Emily Troudt pulled down a rebound each.
E. Miller was the leading Raider point generator against Giltner with 18. Jorgensen dropped through 14 points. Epley put up 12 points for the Raiders. A. Mazour was good for eight points. Heikkinen finished the game with four points. Sydney Biltoft and Ostdiek scored two points each.
E. Miller handled 10 rebounds. Biltoft, Epley and Heikkinen elbowed their way to five rebounds apiece. Troudt landed four rebounds. K. Mazour and A. Miller took care of three rebounds each. Jorgensen put away two rebounds. A. Mazour and Ostdiek wrestled down a rebound each.
The Raiders host the Kenesaw Blue Devils at Nelson Friday. They travel to Axtell, Saturday, for a game with the Wildcats. The Deshler Dragons visit Nelson on Tuesday.
