Irene Fintel

Irene Rosa Fintel, 94, was one of six children born to Henry and Hannah (Collmann) Peters, on Feb. 12, 1926, in rural Hardy. She died Dec. 28.

Irene attended School District 87 rural Deshler. She was united in marriage to Vernon L. Fintel on Feb. 14, 1947, at St. John Lutheran Church, rural Byron. This union was blessed with three children: Warren, Charles and Vicki. They made their home on the farm between Byron and Deshler until 1991.They then moved into Deshler. Irene was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Deshler, where she was a Sunday School teacher, circle member and served on the Altar Guild. She was a volunteer at Parkview Haven Nursing Home in Deshler for many years where she fixed hair and mended clothes. She was a member of the Deshler Woman’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, the TCHS hospital guild volunteering at Things and Stuff thrift shop. She always enjoyed helping Vernon with farming and irrigation, enjoyed baking, particularly at Christmas time, and especially enjoyed visits and time with family.

Irene was preceded in death by husband, Vernon; her parents, Henry and Hannah Peters; two brothers, Laurence and Louis Peters; three sisters, Leona (Peters) Marquart, Lillie (Peters) Kroeger, and Mabel (Peters) Abelbeck; and infant grandson.

She is survived by her children: Warren Fintel of Deshler, Charles Fintel of Omaha, and Mrs. Cary Fintel (Vicki) of Gretna; four grandchildren: and seven great-grandchildren.
