RHHS girls fall to St. John's in season opener

After encountering several game cancellations, the Rock Hills High School basketball team opened their 2020-2021 season with a 51-18 loss to the St. John’s-Tipton Blujays at Mankato, last Tuesday.

Rock Hills fell behind early in the game and never recovered as the Blujays pulled out to a 23-10 halftime lead. All hope was lost when St. John’s-Tipton held a 44-16 lead with one quarter remaining in the game. The Grizzlies were left with a 51-18 loss.

Lauren Whelchel put through 10 points to top the Rock Hills scoring chart. Avery Brown, Jauclyn Lemke and Hannah Simmelink each contributed two points. Karrigan Dunstan scored one point.

The Grizzlies were scheduled to play Red Cloud on Tuesday, Jan. 5, but that game was cancelled. Rock Hills will travel to Chase to play the Chase Kats, Friday, Jan. 8.
