Mary Mathilda Loontjer, 98, of Deshler, the daughter of Diedrich and Ida (Hillers) Burr, was born Oct. 5, 1922, in near Rohrs, Neb. She died Wednesday, Dec. 16, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.
Mary grew up on a farm near Rohrs, attending country school and graduating from Johnson High School.
She married Alvin Loontjer June 27, 1948. This union was blessed with the birth of two sons.
Mary was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler.
She enjoyed playing cards, 10-point pitch, sewing, quilting and never missed bingo on Saturday night.
Mary was busy on the farm helping her husband. When they moved to town in 1966 she worked for Reinke Manufacturing, and Blue Valley Lutheran Home in Hebron.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; brother, Lester Burr; and sister, Ethel Rogge.
She is survived by her sons, Larry Loontjer of Deshler, and Dennis Loontjer of Ruskin; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
Her funeral service was Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Deshler.
Kroll Funeral Home of Deshler was in charge of arrangements.
