Raider Boys Basketball team split weekend game . . . again

Different weeks . . . same results.

Yup, the L-N Raiders came up with identical results for their second week of this young basketball season. Doing and looking quite well in the Friday night game at home in Nelson against Franklin. However, on the Saturday trip to one of the State Leaders, BDS, the results were not to the liking of the Raiders. The game summaries:

L-N – FRANKLIN: 55-30: This was a fun game to watch for the Raiders fans. A person never knew which player would step up at any one time. A lot of them did 'step up' at different time in the ball game.

The first period belonged to Logan Menke as he scored all 11 of the Raider's points and 11 of his game high 16 points. However, Franklin did score first and kept close for those first 8 minutes. (11-9)

The second period could be claimed by Krayton Kucera as he put in 8 of his total of 13 points for the night. Other players adding to the point total for L-N were Keith Miller, Blake Wroughton and Cole Troudt. Quite a number of points came as the result of good passing and lay ups. (17-14)

The Raiders busted the game open in the third period, holding Franklin to only two points (No field goals). (16-2)

The final period saw L-N dominate again. Coach Brown allowed a number of non-starters gain a little varsity experience and they all did well. Twelve players in all played in the game and eight of them scored.

Logan, Krayton and Cole all scored in double figures and Trevor led the team in rebounds with nine.

(Scoring, rebounds, assists): Trevor Biltoft 2, 9, 3; Conner Cannaday 0, 1, 0; Cole Troudt 10, 2, 5; Peyton Mazour 4, 0, 0; Krayton Kucera 13, 1, 5; Logan Menke 16, 5, 0; Tyson Kotinek 0, 3, 0; Blake Wroughton 2, 3, 1; Wyatt Brockman 2, 0, 0; Keith Miller 4, 4, 1; Keaton Mazour 0, 1, 0; Erik Wheeland 0, 1, 0. L-N 55, 30, 15.

Three points shots: L-N 8-25; Cole 2, Krayton 3, Logan 3; Franklin 3-11.

Free throws: L-N 3-6: Krayton 2-2; Logan 1-3; Keith 0-1; Franklin 7-12.

Fouls: L-N 12; Franklin 7.

L-N – BDS: 20-44: What a difference a day makes . . .

'O ya . . . what a difference a team makes as well.

The Raiders switched teams on Saturday, playing one of the top rated teams in Bruning-Davenport- Shickley (BDS). This change of opponents made a big difference. Things like BDS being a "larger" team in both height and size . . . like experiencing a night where that invisible "lid" was tight on the Raider's basket for much of the game . . . like having only four Raiders score in the game. . . etc.

No.1: L-N went scoreless for over seven minutes to start the game, Trailing 0-8 Krayton Kucera sank a 3-pt. shot and then hit another three pointer just as the buzzer sounded to end the period. Score 6-8.

No. 2: It looked like quarter No. 2 would be a replica of the first period, however, Krayton and Trevor Biltoft each sank a pair of free throws to put something into the score book.

No. 3: Krayton hit his third 3-pt. shot early in this period but that was all the Raiders could score.

No. 4: Field goals by Tyson Kotinek, Krayton and a steal and layup by Logan Menke accounted for the scoring for L-N.

In general, the Raiders held BDS to about ten points below their scoring average so far this season. Coach Brown noted: "I thought we played a little timid tonight."

Both teams played a slower, more deliberate style of ball, resulting in the lower point totals. That, plus maybe playing more timid than usual, resulted in the game loss.

(Scoring, rebounds, assists): Connor Cannaday 0, 0, 0; Trevor Biltoft 2, 3, 0; Cole Troudt 0, 2, 1; Krayton Kucera 13, 32, 0; Erik Wheeland 0, 0, 0; Logan Menke 2, 2, 1; Tyson Kotinek 3, 3, 0; Clay Williams 0, 0, 0; Keith Miller 0, 0, 0; Blake Wroughton 0, 0, 1.

Three points shots: L-N: 4-23: Krayton 3; Tyson 1; BDS: 1-11.

Free Throws: L-N: 4-6; Trevor 2-3; Krayton 2-2; Logan 0-1; BDS: 7-12.

Fouls: L-N 15; BDS 13.

Game to come: Dec. 18, Friend High School at Nelson: 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:30. Dec. 22, at Shelton: 4:30, 4:30, 6:00, 7:30.
