Alberta White

Alberta Marie White died Friday, at her childhood home. Her funeral was held Wednesday, at the Williams Funeral Home in Edgar, with Pastor Willie Tryon officiating.

Alberta was born Nov. 23, 1933, to Max and Hannah (Harrison) Overturf. She attended grade school at Excelsior country school and graduated from Edgar High School in 1951. In August of 1951, she traveled to California to marry Jerry White, her high school sweetheart, before he left for Korea. After Jerry’s discharge from the marines, the couple moved back to Nebraska where they farmed and raised livestock during their 40 year marriage. They were blessed with four children; Deborah, David, Dean, and Jeannie.

Alberta continued to farm and raise cattle for 17 years after Jerry died. In 2006, she retired and moved to Hastings. In 2013, she moved to College View.

Alberta was a member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar where she served as treasurer, was a member of the Presbyterian Women and was one of the founders of the quilting group. Her greatest enjoyment was time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, reading, quilting, puzzles and shopping with her long time friend, Emma Skinner.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husband and son, Dean. She is survived by her daughters,Mrs. Lyle (Deb) Karnatz of Edgar; Jeannie Betten of Hebron; and son, David, of Hastings.
