When it comes to railroad divisions, Superior's First Street is a dividing point for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe. There has long been a sign on railroad property near the intersection of First and Hartley welcoming BNSF crews to the Nebraska division.
While Superior is now in the railroad's Powder River Division the dividing line still exists.
While a Powder River Division crew this week was installing a new crossing which takes truck traffic to the Superior East elevator, a Kansas crew was installing a new crossing at the west edge of Courtland.
The railroad recently completed installing lights and crossing arms on a county road intersection near the north edge of Kackley. It is somewhat unusual to have that kind of marking on a gravel surfaced county road with good visibility.
