It is the season of the year for giving, sharing and celebrating. Even with this being “the year of COVID” Jewell County Helping Hands Ministries is doing just that. They are sponsoring a community holiday dinner for Jewell County.
The community holiday dinner will be served on from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday at the Mankato Community Center. Donations will be accepted but the dinner is free to one and all.
In the past, there has been a community holiday meal but this is the first year for Jewell County Helping Hands Ministries to be the organizers. “Trial by fire,” said spokesperson Pastor Jim Rice of the Ionia, Trinity (Jewell) and Harmony (Mankato) United Methodist Churches.
The organization works year-round to provide a ministry of food and other assistance as needs arise. The base ministry is the Food Pantry but financial benevolence and financial counseling services are also available.
Next year the group will be expanding their services to include workshops on budgeting, food planning and meal preparation. These and other ways “Helping Hands” can work “to improve everyday lives.” This meal is a way for the organization to “reach out to the community,” according to Rice.
Come to the Mankato Community Center between 4 and 7p.m., on Sunday. The meal includes a choice of ham or turkey, corn or green beans, mashed potatoes, rolls and dessert. Plans are for servers to take orders from a customer’s car and return with the meal. Please be patient – the food will be worth the wait!
Jewell County Helping Hands Ministries, Inc. is a non-profit organization with headquarters at 206 North Commercial, Mankato. Cathy Dauner is the president of the organization.
