The Jewell County commissioners met Oct. 26. Commissioners Mark Fleming, Steve Greene and Keith Roe were present as was Carla Waugh, county clerk.
The following were present for office head meeting: Travis Garst, solid waste director; Nora Rhoades, district extension director; Chris Petet, custodian; Amanda Davis, register of deeds; Kevin Peroutek, noxious weed director, emergency preparedness director and 911 coordinator; Nancy Marihugh, health administrator; and Carla J. Waugh, county clerk. Those absent were Don Jacobs, sheriff; Anna Porter, county appraiser; Shannon Meier, ambulance director; Brenda Eakins, treasurer and Joel Elkins, general superintendent.
Travis Garst reported hauling out two loads of recycled materials. He reported a motion sensor camera was installed at the landfill.
Nora Rhoades said they are working on protocols. The 2021 Jewell County Fair is set for July 8 through 11. She said the district extended the internet into the kitchen area for business meetings.
Chris Petet said the courthouse boilers have been inspected and are ready for use. The inspector will perform the annual check on the back flow.
Nancy Marihugh said the health department completed four flu clinics and had provided 350 flu shots. She reported Jewell County had a total of 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases with one hospitalized, three active, and 25 recovered. Marihugh said Pawnee Mental Health installed the Tele Health equipment.
Carla Waugh reported 134 voters had early voted in office with 282 mail ballots requested and 157 returned by Oct. 26. She asked that the courthouse parking lot be open for voters on Nov. 3. Waugh said she submitted the KCAMP insurance questionnaire renewal. She was waiting on tax levies from other counties to complete the tax checklist and to build tax statements for the treasurer.
Kevin Peroutek said the LEPC meeting demonstrated the message boards.
Steve Greene attended the detention center meeting.
Keith Roe attended the LEPC meeting, the virtual KAC annual meeting, KWORCC meeting and the JCAB meeting.
Mark Fleming attended the LEPC meeting. He planned to attend the Regional Planning Commission meeting. Fleming said he continues to work on grants. He planned to attend a meeting with Jerry Moran.
Joel Elkins, general superintendent, reported on routine maintenance.
