LaVeta Beyke

LaVeta K. Beyke, 97, of Kimball, died at her home in Kimball on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020. Her service was held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, Nov; 17, 2020. Burial will be at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Lawrence, Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 21. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. The services for LaVeta have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

LaVeta was born on July 18, 1923, in Lawrence, Nebraska to John and Annie (Krebsbach) Beyke. LaVeta was one of nine children and attended Lawrence school. She worked for 30 years as housekeeper for Msgr. Carl Hayden in Grand Island and then in Kimball.

She was a long-time member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball where she was also a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of an Extension Club in Kimball. She liked her flower gardens and cultivated them with love and care. She baked and decorated thousands of sugar cookies for the youth of the church and her many friends and family. They were always a special treat and were almost too pretty to eat, but still always managed to disappear. She made sugar eggs, tea towels and crafts for hundreds of relatives and friends, and stitched much love into many quilts for people to wrap themselves in.

She is survived by one brother, Joe Beyke of Hastings, three goddaughters, Dorothy Beyke of Lincoln, Lora Brown of Grand Island and Sandi Beyke of Lincoln, many nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews as well as great, great-nieces and nephews and great, great, great-nieces and nephews and many special friends who became her family. Although she never had children of her own, she was a mother to many and will be greatly missed. LaVeta was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Florentine Jacobs, Mary Alice Harig, Annie Schunk and Leona Smidt, brothers, Oliver Beyke, Clarence Beyke and Valentine Beyke.
