Janet Kay (Johnson) Ritterling, 81, died Nov. 12, at Tabitha Health Care Services in Lincoln, Neb.
Janet was born June 28, 1939, in Webber. She was the daughter of Gladys Johannes-Johnson and Keith Raymond Johnson. Janet attended St. John’s parochial school. She later attended middle and high school at the public school in Chester. She graduated as her class valedictorian in May of 1956. After graduation, she worked in the business office of the Farmers Union Cooperative Creamery in Superior.
Janet met Raymond Ritterling and the two were married April 6, 1958. They enjoyed 50 years of marriage before Raymond died in January of 2009. Janet lived most of her married life outside of Byron. They moved to Deshler in 2007.
She moved to Lincoln in 2010 where she resided until her death.
After raising her two daughters, Janet decided to find local employment at the school cafeteria in Chester where she worked in the kitchen and also took care of the bookkeeping. After the closing of Chester-Hubbell-Byron school, she went to work at the cafeteria in Hebron High School and was there until her move to Lincoln.
Janet was mother to two daughters: Mrs. Steve Lawton, Six Mile, S.C., and Mrs. Lynn Schuman, Lincoln, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brother, Jim Johnson; and sister, Joyce Boyes.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren and brother, Jerry Johnson of Shawnee, Kan.
Her funeral was Monday, at Peace Lutheran Church in Deshler.
