Republic's Turkey Trot going virtual

If you have let various feeble excuses keep you from attending the annual Republic Turkey Trot, you will have to find new reasons this year for the trot has gone virtual.

That’s right. You participate in the trot at your own convenience, anytime between this Sunday and the following Saturday.

The virtual Turkey Trot will include a one mile, 5 and 10 K fun runs and walks. This will be the ninth annual Turkey Trot and the first one held virtually.

Participants will pick their course and time during Thanksgiving week. Registration is now open. It will close at 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28.

On Saturday morning 17 people had already registered. Four of those were from Montana. The others were from widespread Kansas comminutes as Hays, Overland Park, Manhattan, Cottonwood Falls, and, of course, Republic.

Proceeds from the event will go to support the Wildcat Winds foot and disc golf course located on the former athletic field which adjoins the former Republic School. Sponsors hope to raise at least $1,000 and by mid-morning Saturday they had $205. For those who can’t enter the race, donations are being accepted.

Participants are encouraged to not only submit their times but also pictures taken while competing.
