A motorcycle accident discovered in the early hours of Saturday left one Superior resident dead and three other people seriously injured.
Killed in the crash was Christopher Lovegrove, his wife, Britni (Oakman) Lovegrove was injured and hospitalized in Salina. Friends Mekenzie Ehlers and Conray Sjolander were taken to a Lincoln hospital.
Sjolander regained consciousness on Monday and reports on Tuesday indicate he has been slowly improving. Ehlers has undergone multiple surgeries. It has been necessary to insert a plate into her wrist and another in her skull. Doctors have also amputated a leg below the knee.
We have not obtained a report on Britni but we understand she has been released from the hospital and is now staying with family.
Friends have created Go Fund Me accounts for all involved. The creator of the Lovegrove account, indicated doctors expect it will be a long time before she is able to return to work. The Lovegrove family includes a daughter of grade school age, Kylee.
Apparently the motorcycle ridden by Sjolander and Ehlers had stopped and was struck by the Lovegrove cycle.
The accident happened on a lonely county road near the intersection of X and 300 roads in east central Jewell County.
In spite of her injuries, Ehlers was able to move around and find a working cell phone which she used to call for help.
The Jewell County Sheriff’s office was notified of the accident after 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
