It's getting late in the season, every team is fighting the COVID virus besides the opposition, and teams would like to maybe play some of the games that were cancelled.
The L-N Lady Raiders did something like that last week going to Kenesaw for a triangular (winning one game) and then going to Shelton to play that cancelled game from earlier in the season.
Going to Kenesaw the girls saw their first action for several weeks (giving up 7 or 8 games due to the Covid-19 pandemic) and they won one and lost one game. The summary:
L/N – RED CLOUD: 25-21, 25-17: An interesting item in this game was the lack of long volleys. However, those that did occur were very good and won by L-N. The first Set saw the Raiders give up several points early with hitting errors. However Emily Miller and Avery Mazour both recorded kills to tie the score at 6-6 and the Raiders were on their way to a victory. The Set remained close the rest of the game with Red Cloud coming within one point at 22-21. However, Emily Miller finished off the Set with two kills for the 24th and 25th points.
Set two was also close most of the way with the score last tied at 14-14. After this tie, a series of kills by Emily Miller, Avery Mazour, Katelyn Mazour and Emma Epley coupled with some Red Cloud hitting errors paved the way to the evening's victory.
(Kills, Aces, Digs) Aleah Heikkinen 3, 2, 5; Emma Epley 9, 0, 5; Elsa Jorgensen 0, 1, 7; Katelyn Mazour 2, 1, 1; Emily Troudt 0, 0, 1; Avery Mazour 5, 0, 1; Tori Miller 1, 0, 1; Emily Miller 6, 2, 7.
Ball Handling: Katelyn Mazour 35 of 35 with 15 Assists; Emma Epley 22 of 22 with 8 Assists.
Serve Receptions: Emily Miller 11 of 11, Elsa Jorgensen 9 of 10, Aleah Heikkinen 7 of 8.
Blocking: (Solo, Assist) Emily Miller 1, 0.
L-N – KENESAW: 10-25, 16-25: The Lady Raiders had a little trouble handling the Kenesaw serving in the second game of this triangular meet in Kenesaw last week. The host team was credited with only four ace serves, but the serving had a lot to do with a number of Raiders hitting errors. L-N gave up the first four points of the first match winning a long volley. Kenesaw managed two ace serves as they raced out to a 7-1 lead. In the middle of the set they produced a 13-2 scoring run that put the game away for them.
In the second set, L-N led much of the early part of the set until Kenesaw tied the score at 14-14. The Raiders went cold from that point on with a double block by Emily Miller and Avery Mazour and a backwards tip kill by MacKenzie Ostdiek scoring the only points for L-N.
(Kills, Aces, Digs) Aleah Heikkinen 2, 0, 3; Emma Epley 5, 0, 7; Elsa Jorgensen 0, 0 8; Katelyn Mazour 1, 0, 4; Emily Troudt 0, 0, 1; Avery Mazour 0, 0, 0; Tori Miller 0, 0, 0; Emily Miller 3, 0, 3; Kylie Beard 1, 0, 9; MacKenzie Ostdiek 1, 0, 0.
Ball Handling: Katelyn 30 of 31 with 2 Assists; Emma Epley 16 of 17 with 3 Assists.
Serve Receptions: Elsa Jorgensen 16 of 18; Emily Miller 12 of 13.
Blocking (solo, assists) Avery Mazour 0, 1; Emily Miller 1, 1.
L/N – SHELTON: 22-25, 21-25, 13-25: This 'make-up' game could be called "A Nightmare in Shelton."
The Lady Raiders started the night looking well. A 'tip kill' by Emma scored the first point of the match. Another by Katelyn Mazour with kills by Emily Miller and Kylie Beard helped propel L-N to a 12-5 lead. Elsa Jorgensen served three straight Aces as the Raider built up a 20-8 lead at one point.
This is where the 'nightmare' started. A number of Raider hitting errors couple with a loss of about the only long volley of the Set allowed Shelton back into the game and winning the first Set.
The stats reveal that in spite of the Raiders playing a pretty good game, Shelton's stats were just a little bit better as they won the game in three Sets.
(Kills, Aces, Digs) Aleah Heikkinen 2, 0, 7; Emma Epley 6, 1, 8; Elsa Jorgensen 0, 4, 9; Katelyn Mazour 1, 0, 10; Emily Troudt 0, 0, 0; Avery Mazour 1, 0, 0; Tori Miller 0, 0, 1; Kylie Beard 0, 0, 2; MacKenzie Ostdiek 1, 0, 0;
Ball Handling: Katelyn 34 of 34 with 8 Assists; Emma 28 of 29 with 5 Assists.
Serve Receptions: Elsa 12 of 15; Aleah 17 of 17; Emily Miller 14 of 14.
Blocking: (Solo, Assists) Aleah 1, 1; Avery 1, 0; Kaylie 0-1; Tori 0, 1; Emily Miller 1-1.
This week the girls entertained Blue Hill on Tuesday and host a triangular today (Thursday) before starting the TVC tournament on Saturday.
