Vicki Sweet

Vicki Lee (Upton) Sweet, 71, died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Superior on Sunday, Oct.11, 2020. She was born June 6, 1949, in Lincoln, Neb., to Bill and Iva Mae Upton.

They moved to Superior in 1951. Vicki grew up in Superior with her sister, Pam, and close to her cousins, Stephanie, Rick, Julie and Jeff Alexander. Growing up she loved spending time with her cousins at the lake. She was involved (although not always willingly) in piano lessons, square dancing, Triple Trio, class plays and various other school activities.

She graduated Superior High School in 1967 and received her bachelor of science in education with an endorsement in elementary education and special education from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1971.

She moved to Beemer, Neb., to begin her teaching career. Vicki spent a couple years at Fremont teaching special education degree and then shortly after that moved to Superior, where she continued her teaching career for Superior Public Schools for the next 40 years.

Vicki met her husband, Harold Sweet, while she lived in Fremont. She moved to Superior shortly after they met. Together they had three daughters and one son. Vicki was a member of PEO, Mothers Club, the bell choir at the Superior United Methodist Church and a few bridge clubs.

She retired from teaching in May of 2013 and devoted her time to her family. Her favorite thing to do was watch her nine grandchildren grow and play. They were her pride and joy and would do everything and anything for them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William H and Iva Mae Upton; and son, David William Sweet.

She is survived by her husband, Harold Sweet; daughters, Jenny Krehbiel and husband, Trever, Kathleen Frerichs and husband, Brent, Kristen Corman and husband, Brock;grandchildren, Jak Krehbiel, Eva Krehbiel, Ela Krehbiel, Max Krehbiel,Will Frerichs, Brady Frerichs, Lilly Corman, Chloe Corman, Braxton Corman; her sister, Pam Hoefs and husband, Dr. Mike; other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday,) Oct. 15, at the Rosemound Cemetery, south Hardy. Pastor Marilyn Sweet will be officiating. If you are planning to attend the graveside services, please bring along a lawn chair if possible.

Vicki had a great love for reading. Memorials will be sent to the Superior Public Library and the Alzheimer’s Association.
