The new secretary at Rock Hills Junior-Senior High School is Jaid Runft. She grew up on a farm just outside of Scandia. After graduating from Pike Valley, she went to Fort Hays to major in communication studies with a minor in agriculture. Jaid lives in Courtland, which is between her childhood home and work so she is happy living there.
She said becoming the secretary at Rock Hills wasn't intentional. She started working in Courtland and saw the opportunity at the school. So she applied. She likes children and was able to stay close to her home. She lived around the Scandia area and was in close contact with Mankato and the students from Rock Hills. "Rock Hills has a good reputation," Jaid said.
After college, Jaid moved to Dallas, Texas, and was an agricultural intern with the state fair. She manned 80 interns and had to be sure all agricultural related things were taken care of.
Jaid enjoys showing cattle and being an aunt in her free time. She also likes going to football games even though she doesn't always understand them. Jaid graduated from school with Mrs. Hamel, and she finds it neat that she and Mrs. Hamel are now working at the same place.
Jaid likes the students, faculty and staff at Rock Hills. She had big shoes to fill when she came to the school. Everyone has been patient with her and helpful with her the questions she has. For that she is grateful. "I'm happy to be home and in welcoming arms at Rock Hills," she said.
Jaid is thankful for Delores Angleton helping her get acquainted with the school and answering her questions when others couldn't.
