State Park hosts decorating contest

Lovewell State Park hosted its 18th Annual Campground Christmas on Saturday. This year’s event had 12 decorated campsites registered for the contest, with several other nicely decorated campsites that chose not to participate in the contest. Entries were decked out with lights, holiday blowups, Christmas trees, and a variety of other traditional and non-traditional decorations.

Winning first place by judges’ vote was Kelly Moore of Oberlin with a Tiki Luau themed display. Second place was awarded to Sondra Fowler, also from Oberlin, with an elaborate Gingerbread display. Mike Burns of Fairmont was the third place winner, with a variety of lights and inflatables displayed. Judges circled the state park on Saturday evening to choose the winners. It is estimated that more than 150 vehicles visited the campgrounds that evening to view the decorations. Hearty Merry Christmas wishes were shouted to passersby, and carolers were singing at several campsites.
