Avis Charlene Isaac was born July 28, 1938, in Mankato, Kan., to Charles and Geraldine (Chase) Andrews, the second of six children.
She died Aug. 6, 2020 in Salina. She was preceeded in death by her parents; a sister, Karen Rathbun; a brother, Charles Andrews Jr .; and a sister, Etta, who died at birth.
Avis is survived by a daughter, Sandy Fellers (Jeff) of Vanderbilt, Texas; two sisters, Glenda Ferguson (Dan) of Wichita, and Ronda Ost (Larry) of Mankato; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
Avis was a graduate of Montrose High School. In her early adulthood, she spent several years working in Mankato, Las Vegas and Dallas but ultimately she returned home to Mankato to invest back into the community she loved. She opened her restaurant,The Red Rooster, around 32 years ago and worked hard there. She enjoyed her customers, who over the years, became family to her. She also loved cooking, karaoke nights and her collections.
She had a heart of gold and would give anyone anything. Her passions were her flowers, her dog, going to garage sales, thrift stores and pawn shops. Watching Jeopardy every day was a favorite of hers.
Her funeral was at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, with Pastor Dan Ferguson officiating.
Visitation washeld from 1 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 10, with the family receiving friends from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato.
Interment followed in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Mankato.
