On Monday a Mankato resident was flying his experimental aircraft when he experienced technical difficulties after takeoff. He tried to turn the plane around but lost control crashing to the east side of the runway.
Around 7:55 a.m. the Jewell County dispatch received a 911 call. The responding agencies were Jewell County EMS, Jewell County Fire, and the Jewell County Sheriff’s Office. The individual was transported to the Jewell County Hospital then flown to Wichita with critical but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to the Aviation Safety Nework, the aircraft was a Titan Tornado, made from a kit by Charles Bennett. It reported the plane lost engine power.
