A former Superior resident, James A. Wheeler, Jr., 31, will spend five to 10 years in prison for carjacking a Shelton woman who was traveling on Highway 281 near Doniphan.
Wheeler had previously entered a guilty plea.
He reportedly was hitchhiking on April 15, 2019, and riding with a man traveling northbound on Highway 281. After the two got into an argument, the driver pulled over and forced Wheeler out of the vehicle.
Wheeler then reportedly stood in oncoming traffic to force Kristen Brandt of Shelton to stop the van she was driving.
He reportedly took the vehicle and drove away after Brandt removed her infant child from the vehicle. The van was equipped with a keyless entry and ignition system which shut down when the van was out of the key fob’s range.
No injuries were reported.
