Bernice Bergman

Bernice Bergman, 88, of Mankato, died Thursday, June 18, at the Mitchell County Hospital Health Systems, Beloit. She was born on Sep. 26, 1931, in Weatherford, Okla., to Jake and Anna (Holly) Hamburger.

Bernice graduated from Weather- ford High School and then attended Emporia State University Teachers college getting her bachelor’s degree for teaching. She taught in various schools, including Mankato then later became a full-time farmer’s wife. Bernice married Bill Conner and in that marriage they were blessed with four children: Mike, Beverly, Sherry and Bill. Bernice later married John “Swede” Bergman.

She enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for making the best cinnamon rolls. She also enjoyed going to casinos, playing bingo and playing bridge, both locally and online where she had met a lot of people whom she called friends,

Bernice was a member of the Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Ladies Guild and various card clubs throughout the years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Beverly Conner, Wenatchee, Wash., and Sherry Gennaro, Mankato; two sons, Mike Conner, Mankato, and Bill Conner, Loveland, Colo .; one sister, Cora Marcks; six grandchildren, Jeremiah, Matt, Becky, Anne, Colin and Tyler; and three great-grandchildren; Kaycie, Enid, Sylvie, Chase and Jett.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Anna; her husbands, Bill Conner and John Bergman; four brothers, Levi Hamburger, Elroy Hamburger, Eugene Hamburger and Aleal Hamburger; and two sisters, Elda May Lay and Wilma Sopher.

Mass of Christian Burial was said at 11 a.m., Monday, June 22, at St. Theresa Catholic Church, Mankato with Fr. David officiating.

Bernice was quick to help anyone in need. She loved and adored her children and grandchildren and was giving to all who were blessed in knowing her.
