Elmer Holtzen

Elmer John Holtzen, 94, of Deshler, the son of Theodore and Anna (Mueller)

Holtzen was born Aug. 28, 1925, near Davenport. He died Friday, May 15, at Thayer County Health Services in Hebron.

Elmer grew up on a farm near Kiowa where he attended school through the

eighth grade. He then went to work helping his father on the farm and spent his entire life working the ground, and raising livestock. He was still on the farm at the time of his death.

Elmer married Mildred Schardt April 5, 1953, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedensau. This year they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. This marriage was blessed with three children.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he held many offices, was a member of the church choir and a member of Lutheran Layman’s League. He was a charter member of the Deshler Lions Club, a member of the Hebron Flying Club and served on the Hebron Co-op Board.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Norman Holtzen, and

Harold Holtzen; and sister, Elda Heitmann.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Holtzen of Deshler; sons, Rod and Dale Holtzen, of Davenport; daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Barb) Bedke, of Lincoln, Neb; five grandchildren; and14 great-grandchildren.

A private family service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Friedensau.

Kroll Funeral Home of Deshler, NE is in charge of arrangements.
