Pohlmeier steps down as Lawrence board chairman
This month two Nuckolls County communities have new people in the positions of leadership. Last week we reported on the resignation of Sonia Schmidt as mayor of Superior and the advancement of Chris Peterson to the office of mayor. This week we report on a similar change at Lawrence.
Chairman of the Board Kevin Pohlmeier has resigned. Pohlmeier was completing his 19th year as a member of the village trustees. During most of those 19 years, he served as chairman of the board.
The untimely death of Marlene Faimon, a board member, necessitated another new member to the board.
At the May meeting two new members, Joe Kathman and Sarah Griffis, joined the board. Both are Lawrence area natives.
Pohlmeier was elected to the board on Nov. 7, 2000. He was appointed chairman of the board in 2001 and continued to serve in that capacity until now. He noted his resignation was not because of his medical condition, but that "it was just the right time to do it."
He was born and raised on the Pohlmeier farm east of Lawrence, but had lived in the village most of the time after his college commencement. In addition to serving the village board, he has been a member of the volunteer fire department and active with the St. Stephen Council 1906, Knights of Columbus.
A unique hallmark of Mr. Pohlmeier's term in office is the fact that has appointed all of the current board members as they started their service to the community.
The Pohlmeier farm land and farm home of his folks, Don and Delores Pohlmeier, was just recently sold along with all of his farm equipment. For many years the farm was noted for raising turkeys.
