Late Friday afternoon members of the Superior Volunteer Fire Department responded to a house fire at 4037 Road B. Road B is the former route of Highway 3S. It is located south of the current Highway 8 and the former Burlington railroad line. Prior to the fire, the Richard Watson family of four called the well-maintained house their home. All occupants of the house escaped without injury and the family pets were saved though Heather Watson was treated at Brodstone Hospital for smoke inhalation.
When the fire started, Katelynn was doing her nails. It is thought a cat jumped on the table and knocked over either a bottle of polish remover or a burning candle and the room exploded into fire.
There was extensive damage. A four to five-foot hole was burned in the living room and there was smoke and water damage throughout.
Smoke was pouring from the attic windows when this newspaper's photographer arrived.
The family's Shitzu named Cooper was found hiding under a bed and removed from the house.
The American Red Cross responded and provided assistance to the family.
Richard said he was leaving work and heading home when he spoke with his wife, Heather, and learned the house was on fire. Though he sped home, he said it was a long drive.
