Country Roads

This Easter will be like none other for people trying to “social distance,” during the COVID-19 epidemic. Easter usually is enjoyed by all communities hosting Easter Egg Hunts, where the children take their baskets and sacks, running here and there trying to find the hidden candy--filled eggs. Newly purchased Easter outfits are worn for the special Easter Sunday church services. Sunrise services are attended and people marvel at the glorious sun rise that occurs in the Eastern sky. Easter breakfasts will likely not be enjoyed as a congregation this year as has been done in the past.

Though church bells may be heard ringing as some are planning on doing this as a reminder of the special day, most of the churches will remain quiet. The church choirs will not be singing their practiced specials such as “He Lives, Because He Lives, and Christ The Lord Has Risen Today.” There won’t be the usual Easter family gatherings and special meals which have been a custom.

Easter 2020 will be celebrated unlike any Easter before. Pastors all over the United States and beyond will be presenting their special Easter messages. People wanting to continue worshiping Easter can still do so at home. Being without our usual Easter rituals will make us all appreciate them even more and not take them for granted, once the virus has cleared. Easter will still come! The true meaning of Easter will never be canceled.

A posting on social media said it all, “The church buildings may be empty but so is the grave...Easter is April 12 and let me say it ain’t going to be cancelled. Christ the Lord is risen and nobody can change that.”
