Glenda Young

Editor’s note: The following obituary was written by the deceased before her death.

I, Glenda Carol Simmons Young was born Sept 5, 1945, to Vernon Glenn Simmons and Wilma Faye Nitcher Simmons in Bellville, Republic County, Kan.

I was raised by my grandparents, Verce and Lena Mae (Swaney Nitcher) Baxter, after experiencing a serious illness.

I attended school in Republic and Belleville and graduated from Belleville High School in 1963.

On April 8, 1962, I married Wilbur Lee Young. We were married on a farm near Munden, Kan.The Rev. Amos Rundus officiated the ceremony.

There were four children born to our marriage: Wilbur Udell Young, Ivan Dale Young, Calvin Gale Young and Rodney Lee Young. I also had two step-daughters, Linda Irene (Young) Muff and Lorraine Lee (Young) Meade.

Wilbur and I were married for 24 years before we divorced in January 1986. Wilbur Lee and I remained close, talking regularly on the phone and visiting each other in person. We remained close until Wilbur’s death in April 1991.

I married Charles Arthur Runyan, Sr. on Dec. 4, 1990. There were no children born to this marriage, but I gained three step-sons, Charles Arthur Runyan, Jr., Vernon Walter Runyan, and Colin Lee Runyan.

I was blessed with 25 grandchildren that I loved very much. I always looked forward to hearing about and seeing pictures of Steven Stearn’s wife, Tiffany, Stephanie (Young) Leisinger husband, Brian, Stacey (Young) Colgrove, Kristi (Stierwalt) Niederklein husband, Derrick, Trevor Young, Adam Young, Dalton Young, Nathan Young, Wilbur Lee Young, Zachary Young, Chase Young, Blake Young, Aydin Young, Shawn Wagoner wife, Sara, Larry Meade, Joshua Meade, Sherry Muff, James “Jimmy” Muff, Michael (Muff) Taylor, Jason (Muff) Taylor, Journey Runyan, Caleb Runyan, Dylon Runyan and Colin Runyan, Jr.

I was also blessed with 19 great- grandchildren Kase, Keaton, Kaleb, Avery and Elliot Leisinger, Zachariah “Zach” Colgrove, Cindy and Wyatt Ebeling, Kyle, Lakota and Wilbur Stearns, Carlos Young, Maverick Wagoner, Karly and Vinny Young, Berkley and Linden Niederklein, Florida and Tyrese Bibbs.

I was able to enjoy all the joys of being a grandma for 39 years of my life and was extremely proud of every one of my grandchildren.

(Glenda died Monday, March 23, at the Brodstone Memorial Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 74 years, 6 months and 18 days.)

I am survived by my sons, Wilbur Udell and wife, Michelle, of Fairbury; Ivan Dale and wife, Peggy, of Milford ,; Calvin Gale and wife, Katie, of Hardy; Rodney Young of Fremont; Kathy Young of Beatrice; Charles Runyan Jr., of Illinois; Vernon Runyan of Washington State and Colin Runyan and wife, Tammy, of Texas; grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends.

I was preceded in death by my husband, Wilbur Lee Young; husband, Charles Runyan Sr .; father, Vernon Glenn Simmons; mother, Wilma Faye Nitcher Simmons Camp; grandfather, Verce Baxter; grandmother, Lena Mae (Swaney Nitcher) Baxter; brothers, Harold, Henry “Butch” and Glenn Simmons; sister, Shirley (Simmons) Hoeferle; and grandsons, James “Jimmy” Muff, Adam Christopher Young, Zachary Young, Kase and Keaton Leisinger.

At my request there will be no funeral service. I requested I be cremated and buried in Missouri with my husband, Wilbur Lee, at a later time. A family celebration of life will be held at that time.
