Mary Ann Gerten

Mary Ann Gerten, 82, of Bladen, died Saturday at Heritage Care Center in Red Cloud.

The daughter of Howard and Cloie (Wratten) James, she was born in Webster County, on Jan. 31, 1938. Mary Ann grew up in Bladen and graduated from Bladen High School in 1955. She married Eldon Kile on Dec. 1, 1956. They had five children; Michiael, Roxie, Mary Christina, Carla, and John. She worked for more than 30 years at Grandview Manor in Campbell. On June 6, 1992, she married Lloyd Gerten. With this union Mary Ann gained four step-sons; Joe, Tim, James and Anthony.

Mary Ann was dedicated to raising her children. She was a Sunday school teacher at Bladen United Methodist Church and member of the United Methodist Women until joining the Catholic Church in 1991. Mary Ann was a Girl Scout leader for a Brownie Troop. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and helping others.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lloyd Gerten: and great-granddaughter, Charlee Ann Mohlman.

Survivors are her children: Michiael Kile of Bladen, Mrs. Tim Obermier (Roxie) of Aurora, Neb., Mrs. Gary Verhoeff (Christy) of Salina, Mrs. Philip Hernandez (Carla Jameson) of Bladen, John Kile of Princeton, Mo., Joe Gerten, Tim Gerten of Sherrill, Iowa, Jamie Gerten of Sherrill, Iowa, Tony Gerten of Fremont, Neb.; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Richard James of Ocala, Fla.

There was a private graveside service for Mary Ann on Wednesday at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery in Campbell, with The Very Reverend James Schrader officiating.
