New librarian at Jewell Public Library
By Kerma Crouse
Crystal Peters is now the librarian at the Jewell Public Library. She took over the position the last of January.
Peters and her family have lived in Jewell since October of 2018. When Peters says "family," she means husband Kraig and daughters, Hannah, Lydia and Phebe. They moved here because they liked the town and could have a home of their own.
I have always loved books." said Peters. So, taking over the library job seemed like a good fit. She also knew a bit about the job as the previous librarian, Cheyenne Pixler, was her sister.
Peters looks forward to "encouraging people to read" and to promote "the love of reading." A summer reading program is planned for the younger readers in the community. The Jewell Public Library also works with the Randall Public Library to host the Jewell County Readers for the women of the two communities.
For herself, Peters often chooses non-fiction books. Currently she is reading Introverted Mom by Jamie Martin. New books arrive in the library often and there are new selections with the rotating library.
Peters invites the community to come in and look over the books. Additionally, the library currently has a display of the glass mosaic work of Cynthia Goth of Beloit.
The Jewell Public Library is governed by a library board. Currently serving on the board are Cindy Traump, Heather Matter, Jamie Underwood, Marilyn Griest, Joan Searles, Rita Rogers and Pat Zentz.
