SHS wrestler takes sixth at state meet

Payton Christiancy, the lone Superior High School wrestler to qualify for the state meet at Omaha, earned a sixth place finish and 11 team points. The state tournament was held at Omaha's CHI Center, Thursday through Saturday.

Christiancy opened his first round match with a win by a fall over Brayton Branic, Sand Hills-Thedford. He was defeated in his quarter-final match by Levi Kerner, Arapahoe. The loss was by a fall. In consolation round two, Christiancy won by a fall over Zacharia Kenwood, Meridian. He won his third consolation round match by a decision over Eric Hathaway, Pender.

The consolation semifinal match resulted in a loss by fall for Christiancy to Kyle Pickhinke, Howells-Dodge.

Christiancy wrestled Carson Fehlhaler, Centennial, in the fifth place match. Fehlhaler won by a fall.

The 11 team points he earned Superior a 41st place finish in the 62 team field.
