The Superior High School girls basketball team romped past their two opponents in the C2-8 subdistrict event at Fairbury High School to advance to the district level. The Wildcats earned a 55-26 win over Thayer Central last Tuesday. They followed up with a 72-41 pasting of Fillmore Central, Thursday to advance to the C2-7 district final.
Thayer Central trailed 17-10 after the first quarter of play. Superior held the Titans scoreless in the second quarter to take a 31-10 lead into the half. The Wildcats cruised to a 55-26 win. Fillmore Central trailed Superior 9-7 after one quarter. The Wildcats put 25 second quarter points on the board to lead 34-22 at the half. Superior scored 38 third and fourth quarter points while limiting the Panthers to 19 for the 73-41 win and a trip to the district finals.
Kalynn Meyer was the lead Superior scorer against Thayer Central with 22 points. She hauled down 25 rebounds. Hallie Miller kicked in 11 points. Zaveah Kobza scored eight points while pulling away nine rebounds. Trisha Hayes and Shayla Meyer accounted for six points apiece. Hayes had four rebounds with S. Meyer grabbing three. Emma Schnakenberg nabbed four rebounds.
K. Meyer hit for 33 points to lead the Superior offense against Fillmore Central. She secured 20 rebounds for the Wildcats. S. Meyer contributed 17 points and six rebounds. Z. Kobza hit for 12 points while landing a rebound. Miller accounted for six points and four rebounds. Emma Henderson posted two points and one rebound. Hayes and Schnakenberg scored a point and landed two rebounds apiece. Brooklyn Grabast and Sierra Blackburn nailed down a rebound each.
Superior, the number seven seed, travels to Ord High School, Ord, Friday, to play North Central, the number 10 seed. Game time is scheduled for six p.m.
