SHS boys exit sub-district play

The Superior High School boys basketball team closed out their regular season schedule with a 79-50 loss to Sutton at Superior Friday. They were eliminated from subdistrict play with a 55-31 loss to Hastings St. Cecilia at Adams Central High School, Hastings Monday.

Superior led Sutton 18-14 after the first quarter. The Mustangs took the lead with a 22 point second quarter. Superior never mustered the offense needed to come back while Sutton put up 28 points in the third quarter to lead 64-43 going into the final period. Superior was unable to mount a comeback and ended the regular season with a 4-15 record.

The Wildcats were paired with Hastings St. Cecilia in the play-in game Monday for sub-district C2-9. The Bluehawks held a 26-12 lead at the half way point of the game and were never challenged by Superior. When time expired, Hastings St. Cecilia advanced to play on Tuesday while Superior saw its season come to a close.

Hunter Healey led the Wildcats scoring against Sutton with 15 points as he handled one rebound. Conner Blackstone netted 14 points and nabbed two rebounds. Jackson Gilbert tallied nine points and three rebounds. Dane Miller contributed eight points and three rebounds. Jordan Brown and Zeke Meyer accounted for two points apiece. Jedd Whitmore and Meyer grabbed three rebounds each while Seth Schnakenberg nabbed two.

Healy led the Wildcats against Hastings St. cecilia with 10 points. Blackstone collected six points. Meyer and Schnakenberg recorded four points each. Miller scored three points. Brown and Gilbert finished the game with two points apiece.

For Gilbert, Healey and Glenn Rosenquist, it was their last game as a Wildcat. The team returns a strong core of experience for nest season.
