Vernon R. Snider, 91, of Mankato, Kan., died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020, at theMitchell County Hospital. He was born on Sept. 25, 1928, in Wichita Falls, Texas to JR and Fannie (High-tower) Snider.
Vernon was a graduate of Wichita Falls High School. He then went on to Perkins School of Theology at SMU where he met his wife while doing missionary work.
Vernon was a member of the Lions Club, Shriners, Jewell County Lodge 11 AF & AM for 61 years, and the Retired Methodist ministers group.
He loved his family and delighted in telling stories and jokes. He also enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, photography, sailing, computer work and anything electronic. He was an all-around gadget guy.
Vernon served as a United Methodist minister for more than 55 years. During that time, he had more than 23 different charges. He enjoyed the many people and friends he met over all those years.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, Mankato; son, Tim (Rita) Snider, Derby; son, Peter David (Milly) Snider, Milford, N.H .; daughter, Deb (Dave) Warne, Mankato; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, JR and Fannie.
The funeral for Vernon was at 2 p.m., Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Mankato. Visitation was from 1 to 8 p.m., Friday with family greeting friends from 6 to 8 at Melby Mortuary, Mankato.
