Hastings resident Lynn David Schriever, 73, died Feb. 11, at his home.
His funeral was Feb. 15, at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery near Superior.
Lynn was born to Harvey and Fern Schriever and was raised on the family farm near Superior. He was baptized on July 14, 1946, by Pastor J. Alvin Rueter; and confirmed on June 5, 1960, by Pastor S. Haferman; both at Salem Lutheran Church.
Lynn attended Beaverville Grade School before graduating from Superior High School in 1964. He received a diploma in nursing from Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1967. He then joined the U.S. Army and served a year tour in Vietnam as a field hospital nurse. After
the service, he returned to Hastings and completed his bachelor’s of arts degree in psychology and nursing from Hastings College in 1972. Lynn received a master’s of science in nursing degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1975 and completed post-graduate work in adult education and family life education from the University of Kansas.
Lynn was an assistant professor of nursing at Wichita State University from 1976 to 1982, director of the associate degree nursing program at Hutchinson Community College at Hutchinson, from 1982 to 1985. His career included serving as education coordinator at Via Christi Regional Medical Center at Wichita, until his retirement in January 2011. Lynn was a member of First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings.
Lynn is survived by his sister, Gayle Hoops; nephew, Shawn Hoops; niece, Miri Hamburger, and her children, Morgan, Jackson, Jadyn and Brady, all of Hastings,; along with many cousins.
