The 2020 Post Rock District 4-H Day was held Feb. 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Beloit. Members from Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Osborne and Smith County 4-H participated.
At this annual 4-H event, members perform talent, informative presentations and demonstrations in front of a judge and receive verbal and written feedback. 4-H members grow their communication skills and performing arts talent through participation in this annual event. Any 4-H member who receives a purple ribbon on a demonstration or illustrated talk, and is age 9 or older, qualifies to give the presentation at the Kansas State Fair. An Outstanding Presentation Sensation (OPS) is the highest award earned.
A plant science judging contest was also offered and coordinated by Cassie Homan, Post Rock District horticulture agent. Judging competitions provide 4-H youth additional experiential learning opportunities.
A class on Youth Quality Care of Animals (YQCA) was also taught by Risa Overmiller, Smith County 4-H coordinator, after the judging was completed.
