Miola Griffeth

Miola Louise Griffeth, 93, died Feb. 15, 2020, at Hilltop Lodge, Beloit, Kan. She was born Sept. 2, 1926, to Albert Daniel and Irene May (Wise) Shane on a farm north of Cawker City, Kan.

Miola attended first through eighth grade at country schools north and east of Cawker City, then ninth through eleventh grades at Cawker City High School, and because of courses not available at Cawker City, she finished high school at Beloit High School. Ottawa University was her college of choice, which she graduated with a bachelor’s of science in business in 1948.

While at Ottawa University she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Mahlon Griffeth, and they married June 10, 1948, which was nine months after their first date. They enjoyed 64 years of marriage, farming, traveling, as well as raising their four children; Linda (Mike) Richard, Miltonvale, Ks; Peggy (Calvin) Bohnert; Robert (Robin) (Deb) Griffeth; William (Bill) (Melanie) Griffeth all of Jewell, Kan.

Teaching business classes was her specialty, teaching in three school districts, Cawker City, Ionia, and USD 279 Jewell. She was instrumental in convincing the administration to add the first computer class to the USD 279 high school curriculum.

Bob and Miola spent their retirement years traveling and their winters as snow birds in Yuma, Ariz.

Miola is survived by her four children, nine grandchildren: Casey (Krystal) Richard; A.J. (Tiffany) Richard; Joshua (Lori) Bohnert, Marla (Jeff) Koops; Tracy (Jared) Sulsar; Chad (Alyssa) Griffeth; Sarah (Doug) Spencer; Kelly (Teresa) Griffeth, and Eric Griffeth; 24 great grandchildren: Boone and Case Richard; LeNae, Ashlyn, Lundyn Knight, Kinley and Kolby Bohnert; Isaac, Elli, Joanna, Elsa, Carson, and Jabin Koops; Aiden and Mason Sulsar; Hannah and Tyler Jackson; Owen, Grant and Gracyn Spencer; Wadyn, Kaleb, Kapaun and Landon Griffeth.

She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy (Bill) Elliot, Winterville, N.C.; nephew, Steve (Judy) Elliot, Greenville, N.C.; sister in-law, Ouida Griffeth, Barnard, Kan.; nephew, Glenn (Pam) Griffeth, Topeka; as well as a host of relatives, friends and former students.

Miola was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, and a great-granddaughter, Kassidy Sulsar.

Her funeral is at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) Feb. 20, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Jewell . There will be no visitation.

Kleppinger Funeral will handle the arrangements.
