GSS hosts Lunch and Learn Program at Vesty Center

A Lunch and Learn was hosted by Superior Good Samaritan Society at the Vestey Center Wednesday. The event was to inform the community the services available for seniors in the area. While attendees dined at the center, speakers from 12 agencies shared services they offered and covered by Medicare.

Courtney Peeler from Hastings Good Samaritan said the Village Diner at the Good Samaritan Hastings Village is open for those visiting Hastings. GSS of Hastings also offers extended stay housing for those who have doctor visits.

Holly Beavers and BJ Gardner of Superior Physical Therapy spoke about the Ultra G Treadmill used for treatment. It takes the weight off of rehab patients recovering from leg, hip and foot injuries.

Jamie Henderson explained the home care non-skilled services provided by Caring Friends.

Amy Nash told how services at Brodstone Therapy can help people of all ages with speech and swallowing problems.

Mary Rose Taylor, admission coordinator for Good Samaritan Home Health, informed attendees her agency offers skilled services for seniors. The services are V.A. preferred.

Dani Mickleson representing Infinit Rehab explained her company is a therapy provider at Superior Good Samaritan Society. The company uses local therapists.

Sue Guilkey with Brodstone Memorial Hospital gave information on what is available for those who have diabetes. The hospital offers a diagnosis meter and a four month blood pressure program.

Kingswood Court representative, Michelle Sorsen, told about the plans for an assisted memory care unit of 16 apartments and independent duplexes to be built in the near future.

Samantha Zabka, AseraCare Hospice explained her agency helps with quality of life comfort and management. Hospice offers a new support program for those dealing with a serious illness. All areas of care are 100 percent medicare approved.

The Brodstone Memorial Hospital Thrive Center was explained by Krista Holeman. She said Thrive offers talk therapy Monday through Friday. It aims to help people with grief, stress, motions and moods.

Angela Garver, Brodstone Social Service, gave information on applying for and services offered through the social service agencies.

Allison Guthmiller, Superior Good Samaritan Society administrator, reminded everyone about the Respite Care service offered at the facility for those who need a break or care for a short time. Wilde Ridge holds two sessions of coffee time a week. Tuesday coffee time is for women and Thursday is for men. A time for people to get together. Both sessions start at 8:30 a.m. and invite others to join.

At the end of the agency presentations, door prizes were drawn. A dessert bar was offered and attendees could visit the agency booths.
