Superior High School girls take home conference title

The Southern Nebraska Conference girl's basketball championship trophy is now at home in Superior. The Wildcats won all three games to bring home the title. They downed David City, 57-18, in the opening round game at Superior last Tuesday. They pulled away from Sutton in the second half to win their semifinal game, 50-35, at Centennial in Utica, last Thursday. They downed Milford, 57-30, to win the tournament Saturday. They added another win, Monday, when they topped Smith Center, 51-26, at Superior.

Superior opened up a 29-5 half time lead over David City as they cruised to a 57-18 win. Sutton posed a challenge for the first two quarters as they trailed by one point, 25-24, at the half way mark of the game. Superior regrouped and pulled away to a 50-36 win. Milford was never a threat as they trailed 29-14 at the half and never came close. Superior led Smith Center 27-10 at the half and continued to build their lead as they waltzed to a 51-26 win.

Shayla Meyer poured through 20 points to lead Superior against David City. She grabbed seven rebounds. Kalynn Meyer hit for 19 points while nabbing 16 rebounds. Hallie Miller recorded four points and four rebounds for the game. Emma Schnakenberg hit for three points while securing three rebounds. Sierra Blackburn, Ella Gardner, Trisha Hayes and Zaveah Kobza contributed two points apiece. Gardner and Hayes accounted for two rebounds each. Laci Kirchhoff, Neah McMeen, Blackburn, and Henderson pulled down one rebound each.

K. Meyer led the Superior scoring against Sutton with 21 points while nabbing 16 rebounds. S. Meyer and Miller each scored seven points while landing three rebounds apiece. Noelle McMeen posted six points and a rebound. Hayes and Schnakenberg added four points and three rebounds each. Z. Kobzah scored one point while landing a rebound.

K. Meyer led the Superior offense against Milford with 25 points while locking up 18 rebounds. S. Meyer dropped in 18 points and secured three rebounds. Hayes put up seven points to go with two rebounds. Blackburn scored three points and acquired one rebound. Gardner and Miller registered two points each. Miller grabbed three rebounds. Atlee Kobzah and Noelle McMeen snagged a rebound apiece.

K. Meyer was atop the Wildcat-scoring list against Smith Center with 25 points. She ripped away 19 rebounds. Schnakenberg poured through 10 points while grabbing five rebounds. Hayes and Z. Kobzah each netted six points. Hayes landed two rebounds. Blackburn and Miller scored two points and landed a rebound each. Noelle McMeen, Kirchhoff and A. Kobza recorded a rebound each.

Superior closes out their regular season schedule, Friday, when they take on the undefeated Lawrence-Nelson Raiders at Nelson.

Sub-district play will commence Tuesday, at Fairbury, against the winner of Monday's play-in game.
