Virgil “Ray” Thompson, age 78, of Beloit, died Saturday at the Jewell County Hospital. He was born on May 26, 1941, in Cimarron, Kan., to Virgil Elmer and Lucille (Ray) Thompson.
Ray was a graduate of Cimarron High School. Right after high school, Ray proudly entered into the Army service. Later graduating from Fort Hays State University.
He was a member of the American Legion, Beloit.
He enjoyed all sports and excelled in all of them. Ray was particularly proud of his time playing football for the Army and playing both football and basketball at Ft. Hays State University. In later years, he followed them closely and became a statistician. Ray enjoyed time with his family and most of all, his grandchildren. He also enjoyed his time hunting and fishing.
Ray owned and operated T & R Truck in Beloit.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, Beloit; son, Aaron, Jefferson City, Mo.; daughter, Lori, Jewell; son, Ryan, Pierre, S.D.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald, Flint, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Glenn Thompson.
A memorial mass was held Feb. 11, at the St. Theresa Catholic Church, in Mankato.
