Floydean Hawley

Floydean "Dean" Hawley, 98, the daughter of Floyd and Minnie Pugh Higgins was born March 27, 1921, in Nemaha County Nebraska near Auburn. She died Feb. 8, 2020, at her home in Edgar, Neb.

Dean was united in marriage to Leland L. Hawley on Nov. 21, 1939, at Hiawatha, Kan. Together with her husband, Leland, the couple had a cattle and farming operation in Clay County, Neb. Dean had been a long time member of the Church of the Plains in Edgar.

Dean had been a Girl Scout leader for many years. She enjoyed playing cards. Dean also enjoyed writing her own poetry she and Leland traveled quite a bit and took cruises. Dean was the Number 1 Husker fan of all time. She and Leland traveled to all Husker games, home and away, for many years. Dean was close to all her nieces and nephews, many of them looked to Dean as a second mother.

She was preceded in death by parents, husband, Leland Hawley in 1999, daughter, Claudia Mullinix; brothers Berle, Gordon, Clifford, Eldon and Darrell and a sister, Delores.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Chance Keith and Faith Howard, sister, Ardis Behrends, other relatives and a host of friends.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Church of the Plains in Edgar. Pastor Ethan Feistner will be officiating. Burial will be in the Edgar Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family at wmsfh.com. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar is in charge of the arrangements.
