The Nuckolls County Board of Commissioners met at the county courthouse in Nelson Monday. Commissioner James Keifer was excused because of a medical issue. Tim Zikmund and Daren Blackstone were present.
The main agenda item was the letting of the bid for the overlay of the Edgar South spur. The road runs from the Nuckolls-Clay County line to Highway 4. The project calls for the road to be milled and repaved with a three inch overlay of asphalt. The county road department will complete the shoulder work and sodding. Two bids were received by Carrie Miller, the county clerk. The first, from Vontz of Hastings, was for $733,642.16 with a start date of April 15 and a completion date of May 29. The second was from Werner Construction of Hastings for $903,303.76 with a start date of Sept. 8. The board awarded the contract to Bontz.
In other business, the board approved a special liquor license for the Nuckolls County Ag Society for a beer garden at the county fair rodeo.
A hazardous waste collection event is set for May 2 at the county road department shop in Nelson. The hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m.
Because of the Presidents’ Day holiday, the next meeting of the board will be Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 8:30 a.m.
