    Good ole Mother Nature forced the Red Raider Cross Country team to miss competing at the Superior meet a week ago, but last week they were able to go to Fairbury for their annual Invitational Meet. The boy’s team finished 8th out of the 15 teams with Rowan Jarosik earning a medal with his 11th place finish with a time of 19:14.     The L-N Lady Raiders were busy last week . . . Maybe that's an understatement but L-N went into the week with five games and a 3-2 won-loss record before last week. After last week, they added 3 more wins and two more losses to their record. Games on Tuesday and Thursday and three games on Saturday filled up the days.     The Superior High School girls golf team continues to forge an impressive record in their first season of play. They took home a first place finish from the Fairbury Invitational, Monday with a team score of 430. Three team members finished in the top 10.     The Superior High School cross country team competed at their first meet of the 2021 season at Fairbury, Thursday. The scheduled season opening Superior Invitational was cancelled because of inclement weather conditions. Laci Kirchhoff finished in 28th place in the 77 runner field.     Superior hosted the 2-0 Wilber-Clatonia Wolverines at Brodstone Memorial Field Friday. The Wolverines departed Superior with a 3-0 record after downing an outmatched Superior team 34-14. The Wolverines advanced to the state quarter final C-2 round last season. They returned the core of that team this season.     Sawyer Havenstein faced a rough outing in his first game as the Rock Hills High School football coach. COVID-19 had run through the school reducing the number of players available. And it showed as Lakeside decimated the Grizzlies 64-6 at Mankato Friday. The game was called at half time as the 45 point mercy rule was invoked.     Lovewell State Park is sponsoring a 3D Archery Shoot event on Sunday, Sept. 12. Registration will be at the state park archery range located just north of Cottonwood Campground, 9 to 10 a.m. A $10 donation is suggested to enter, and the winning plaques will be awarded at the conclusion of the tournament.     Saturday was the annual high school rodeo held at the Nuckolls County Fairgrounds. I like youngsters and rodeo, so this is one of my favorite events to attend.     A change of scenery was just what the Superior Wildcat football team needed. The team traveled to Fairbury, Friday, and returned home with a 42-24 win against the Fairbury Jeffs.
