    The Lawrence-Nelson High School boys basketball team kicked off the season with two consecutive wins. The Raiders downed Red Cloud, 54-49, at Nelson, Friday. They put away the Thayer Central Titans, 49-45, at Nelson, Saturday. Logan Menke led the Raiders offense against Red Cloud with 17 points. Clay Williams was credited with 13 points.     It was a win for the Lawrence-Nelson High School girls basketball team as they downed Red Cloud 47-34 at Nelson Friday. The Raiders did not fare as well Saturday when the Thayer Central Titans handed themn a 51-39 loss at nelson. Red Cloud never posed a serious threat to the Raiders as they cruised to a 22-12 halftime lead. Red Cloud scrapped back over the last two quarters byt was unable to surmount their earlier deficit.     It seems that often the L-N Boys’ Basketball team opens the season with a win, but drops the second game of the year. Well . . . that didn’t happen this year. Conner Cosand and Jacob Barry, both seniors and Coelton Neilson, a sophomore, will compete with the Beloit team during the regular season.     The 2021-2022 Superior High School boys basketball team will have a new head coach when they open their season against Republic County at Superior, Saturday, Dec. 4. Trent Siebecker, who served as the assistant coach, will take the helm for Superior. Former head coach Luke Chadwell was not retained for another season. Siebecker will be assisted by Mason Heath.     The Superior High School volleyball season capped off the 2021 season with a fourth place finish at the state Class C-2 tournament in Lincoln. Shayla Meyer led the team with 497 kills for the season. Teegan Duncan compiled 144 kills. Cailyn Barry provided 120 kills. Madison Heusinkvelt produced 114 kills. Brooklynn Grabast added 34 kills.
