The Lawrence Country Club hosted the 50 and Over 2-Person Scramble on Sunday, July 9. Nineteen teams enjoyed the day. Winners of the championship flight were Dale and Tami Kohmetscher shooting a 65. Sadie Rempel will represent Nuckolls County when she competes at the National High School Rodeo finals being staged at Gillette, Wyoming, Sunday through Saturday, July 22. Rempel earned her place at the national event after compiling points at various high school rodeo events across Nebraska. She will compete in pole bending and breakaway, a form of calf roping. Reagan Meyers is following in the footsteps of her older sisters as she enters her freshman year at Superior High School. Meyers is a member of the South Central Black U15 Club volleyball team. She was introduced to the national spotlight at the recent USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship held at Chicago. The team finished in third place in the Liberty Division which had teams from California to Florida and everywhere in between competing. Meili Ost competed at the USATF Junior Olympics Region 9 track meet in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on July 8, 2023. Meili is a member of the Kansas Flyers track team based out of Minneapolis, Kansas. The Kansas Flyers track team includes girls from all over the state of Kansas, ages 8 to 18. Meili competed in the 13 to 14 age group 800 meter run and the 4x800 meter relay. The 63rd Annual Men's Cow Chip Open was held Sunday, June 11, at the Lawrence Country Club hosting 55 golfers. The course was blessed with rain along with a light drizzle morning of the tournament, making conditions wet but manageable for the day. In existence since 1922, the Mankato Golf Course has had many improvements done - 100 percent by volunteers. Volunteers consisted mostly of board members and course members. The Mankato Golf Course is considered one of the nicest sand green golf courses in the state and is the home to multiple high school individual and team state championships. Chloe Weber of Jewell, local horsewoman, is in the running for the NCK (North Central Kansas) Rodeo Queen. Weber is part of three area "horse" clubs, The Mitchell County Riders, the North Central Kansas Saddle Club, Concordia, and the Jewell County Saddle Club. The Lawrence Pool has been going in full swing since June 7. A coat of paint was put on the pool floor and allowed time to dry before opening. This season there are four full time lifeguards and five part time lifeguards. So far scheduling hasn't been too big of an issue. The 21st annual Lions High School Senior All Star Golf Tournament was held in Kearney June 19 and 20. Thirty High School boys and 30 girls are invited to the All-Star event yearly from high schools across Nebraska. Toby Kotinek represented the Lawrence-Nelson Raiders and did well. The 16th annual For the Cure Breast Cancer Awareness Golf Tournament took place on Saturday at Superior Country Club. This year's theme was "Keep The Girls Golden," with a nod to The Golden Girls. Salem Lutheran Church women welcomed Bike Ride Across Nebraska (BRAN) Riders on Wednesday, June 7, as they passed by on Highway 14 on their way to Hebron from Red Cloud. Wednesday was day four of the week long ride that started at Benkelman. The Superior Country Club hosted the annual Superior Youth Golf Camp last Tuesday and Wednesday. The weather cooperated for the 36 attendees. Participants at the camp came from the age groups of five through 13 years of age in the Superior school system as well as from Geneva.
