There is a new team competing for Lawrence-Nelson High School. Wrestling returns after a two-decade hiatus. Wrestlers had competed with Sandy Creek as part of the USD5 program. With the dissolution of that district, wrestling returns as a stand alone sport for the Raiders. Adam Theer serves as the head coach of the team. The 2023 football season for the L-N High School Raiders came to an end Friday night in Callaway, Nebraska. The Raiders played one of the six undefeated class D-2 schools left in the Playoff system, South Loop (record 9-0). Thirty-two Class D schools are divided into east and west divisions and play this play-in game with the hope that traveling is reduced for all schools. The L-N Raiders earned the right to advance in the Class D-2 Football Playoff system last week by winning their first game. Fielding a cross country team for the first time, the team held their own against schools with well-established programs. Several of the team members had no distance running experience prior to the season yet they did not allow that to deter them. In those 24 years, the Raider football team has played in the state football playoffs on 22 of the 24 years. Thirty-two teams qualify for the Class D-2 system and teams are divided with 16 teams in the east and 16 teams in the west (in an effort to reduce distances between teams).
