    The Minden Whippets won 46-40 over the Superior Lady Wildcats in overtime, Friday night, in the first round of the Grand Island Central Catholic Holiday tournament.     The Superior Wildcats boys basketball team broke a 21 game losing streak when they won over the Meridian Mustangs Friday evening in Daykin with a score of 49 to 36. The box score was 15 to 11 in the first quarter, tied at 8 each in the second, 10 to nine in the third and 16 to 8 in the fourth. Saturday, Superior hosted the Centennial Broncos.     Competition stiffened this week for the Superior Wildcat Wrestling team when they traveled to Hooper for the Dan Mowinkel-LonganView Invitational. Superior earned 39 points in a field of 17 teams, all of which scored more than the Wildcats. Battle Creek won the tournament with 245 points. Other teams who scored more than 100 points were Syracuse, Central City, Milford and Tekaman-Herman. Kyler Boyles placed fifth in the 190 pound weight class.     Sadie Cornell , a five foot five inch senior, put the Superior Wildcats girls team in the spotlight this week, when she reached the 1,000 point scoring mark in her high school basketball career. Saturday, she scored 20 points for the Lady Cats when they played Centennial in Superior. Regan Meyer, a 6'2" sophomore, scored 21.     The Lady Raiders had a rough weekend dropping two game. A trip to Shelton did not bode well for L-N and then the girls suffered a cold first period against Exeter-Milligan-Friend (EMF), but played better for the rest of the game.     Wrestling fans may have noticed, there are some rule changes this season. Take downs are scored differently this year. A take down is now worth three points. Last year, a wrestler earned only two. Another scoring change relates to seconds a wrestler keeps their opponent’s back on the matt. Two seconds earns two points, three seconds - three points and four seconds earns four point. Last year three seconds earned a wrestler two points and five seconds earned three points. Enough high-lights were seen, however, that may bode well for the coming season.     The Superior girls basketball team opened regular season play with a win over Sutton 52 to 32 Thursday evening in Sutton. Last year, Sutton beat the Wildcats 52 to 39.     The Sandy Creek Cougars defeated Stanton 44-42 at UNL’s Memorial Stadium Monday afternoon for their first ever appearance at the state championship games.
