Rock Hills Lady Grizzlies handily defeated the Thunder Ridge Lady Longhorns by a score of 55-29 in a pre-season tournament game held on Dec.10, in Stockton, dominating the offensive and defensive scheme of things from start to finish. The Superior Wildcat girls won over the Fairbury Jeffs 50-24 last Tuesday at Fairbury for their second straight win of the season. Superior Wildcat boys lost at home to Wilber-Claytonia in Superior Saturday, 36-58. Trenton Siebecker, coach, said, "We just had an off night. Sometimes those things happen." Saturday the Superior boys competed at Meridian in the Bob Oliver Pin Invitational with 20 other teams. The Wildcats placed second with 225 points. Tri-County won the tournament with 240 points. Wrestling fans may have noticed, there are some rule changes this season. Take downs are scored differently this year. A take down is now worth three points. Last year, a wrestler earned only two. Another scoring change relates to seconds a wrestler keeps their opponent’s back on the matt. Two seconds earns two points, three seconds - three points and four seconds earns four point. Lawrence-Nelson wrestlers traveled to Meridian for the Bob Oliver Invitational Saturday. The team earned 20 points. Leslie Corman was fourth place in the 150 pound class, Beck Grayhm placed fourth in the 165 pound class, Augustus Harrison placed fifth in the 165 pound class, Monte Hajny and Parker Ostdiek each placed eighth. The Superior girls basketball team opened regular season play with a win over Sutton 52 to 32 Thursday evening in Sutton. Last year, Sutton beat the Wildcats 52 to 39. The Sandy Creek Cougars defeated Stanton 44-42 at UNL’s Memorial Stadium Monday afternoon for their first ever appearance at the state championship games. A year ago Stanton defeated Sandy Creek in the semifinals and went on to win the state title. Stanton scored first and at the half led with a score of 28 to 20. The Lawrence-Nelson Raiders volleyball team ended their 2024 campaign with a sub-district play-in game loss to Hampton, at Meridian, Monday. The Raiders closed out their regular season schedule last Tuesday at the Franklin triangular. They downed Giltner, 25-13 and 25-14, in two sets.
