For example on Monday we received an email from a Lincoln subscriber complaining because she had not yet received her Nov. 2 paper. Nebraska’s 2023 pheasant and quail season opener Oct. 28 greeted hunters with a front of cold winter weather and variable success. Based on field reports from Nebraska Game and Parks Commission staff and law enforcement, pheasant hunters found better success in parts of northeast, central and south-central Nebraska. Mankato Volunteer Fire Department was one of 78 departments in Kansas awarded funding through the Kansas Firefighter Recruitment and Safety Grant (KSFRSG) Program administered by the office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). The department was awarded $4,544.40 to be used for the purchase of fireman turnout gear. However, KDOT staffing shortages create the potential for highways to not be cleared of snow and ice in a timely manner. In early 2024, residents of Superior will likely receive a new format of utility bill. Monday evening members of the city council gave the nod to continue the process of switching to an out-of-town firm for the printing and mailing of the utility bills. Currently the bills are printed in the city office and prepared for mailing at the Superior Post Office by city staff members.
