Members of the Ruskin Volunteer Fire Department were called to battle a house fire about 8 Saturday morning. The little blue house north of the C&M Supply office at the northwest edge of the east central Nuckolls County community was on fire. This newspaper is regularly receiving calls and emails from subscribers who are unhappy because of postal delays. For example on Monday we received an email from a Lincoln subscriber complaining because she had not yet received her Nov. 2 paper. Not so many years ago we could count on papers being delivered to Lincoln on Thursday and Kansas City on Friday, but that is no longer the case. Nebraska’s 2023 pheasant and quail season opener Oct. 28 greeted hunters with a front of cold winter weather and variable success. Based on field reports from Nebraska Game and Parks Commission staff and law enforcement, pheasant hunters found better success in parts of northeast, central and south-central Nebraska. Mankato Volunteer Fire Department was one of 78 departments in Kansas awarded funding through the Kansas Firefighter Recruitment and Safety Grant (KSFRSG) Program administered by the office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). In early 2024, residents of Superior will likely receive a new format of utility bill. Monday evening members of the city council gave the nod to continue the process of switching to an out-of-town firm for the printing and mailing of the utility bills.
